The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

Now this is a film released in 2007, but as my first entry I choose to review "The Darjeeling Limited" as it has had a profound influence on my own storytelling abilities.

Put simply it is a 'Journey' film. Three brothers (Jason Schwatrzman, Owen Wilson & Adrien Brody) come together once again after their father's death a year ago. It is essentially a character driven film as are all of Wes Anderson's (Director & Co-Writer) concoction's. The humor is always understated and not thrown in your face. The fourth character is the country they travel to, India. It acts as a referee, testifying about the characters we are involved in, taking the three men out of their element and giving the audience a truthful account. All the performances are wonderful and the cameos realistic. The music is also an integral part of this piece, it sets the mood and tempo throughout.

Also make sure you watch the "Hotel Chevalier" a short film that runs before the film on the DVD, it acts as a back story for one of the brothers story.

Also Watch: Rushmore (1998) The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004)

My Monster

Do you want to meet my monster
He is ragged, old and blue
and my only company

He lives with me
we go to the backyard, the front
we test his limits
only for minutes

I feed him
He grows
I learn to live with him
he doesnt leave
